Guys, I’m still catching my breath—the Season 5 trailer for The Chosen dropped on May 2, 2025, and it’s got me all kinds of emotional! If that wasn’t enough, we finally have a streaming premiere date: June 15, 2025, on Prime Video. After making a huge splash in theaters with a $60 million global haul since March, The Chosen: The Last Supper is coming to our screens, and this season looks like the most intense one yet. I’ve been obsessed with this show since the beginning, so let’s break down the trailer, the release plan, and why I’m already reaching for the tissues!
This Trailer Gave Me Chills
The Season 5 trailer is a straight-up masterpiece. It dives right into Holy Week—the last days of Jesus’ life—and the tension is off the charts. Jonathan Roumie as Jesus is incredible, storming into the Temple in Jerusalem and flipping tables like a total boss. “My house should be a house of prayer, but you make it a den of thieves!” he yells, and I got goosebumps. We’ve seen Jesus’ compassion in past seasons, but this fiery side? It’s next-level. Then there’s Judas, played by Luke Dimyan, watching in horror and whispering, “What have you done?” Oh man, the betrayal is coming, and I’m already dreading it.
The trailer shows Jesus entering Jerusalem with crowds waving palm leaves, thinking he’s about to be crowned king. But then it gets dark—religious leaders are plotting against him, and the Last Supper scene looks so heavy. The official description says it all: “Season five follows Jesus’ triumph to treachery as his final days unfold in a story that changed the world.” Creator Dallas Jenkins wasn’t kidding when he said this season has their “most ambitious episodes yet.” I’m not ready for what’s coming, but I also can’t wait!
From Theaters to Our Screens
Season 5, also called The Chosen: The Last Supper, already had a big theatrical run starting March 28, 2025. They released it in three parts: Episodes 1-2, then 3-5, and finally 6-8, running through April 20. It was a massive hit, raking in $60 million worldwide, and fans in over 40 countries got to see it on the big screen. I didn’t make it to the theater, so I’m beyond excited that it’s coming to Prime Video on June 15, 2025, in the U.S. They’re doing a weekly drop—Episodes 1-2 on June 15, Episodes 3-5 on June 22, and Episodes 6-8 on June 29. If you’re in places like Canada, the UK, or Latin America, you’ll have to wait until July for a non-exclusive release on Prime.
After a 90-day exclusive window on Prime Video, Season 5 will be free on The Chosen app and website, probably around September 2025. This move to Prime Video is part of a new deal with Amazon MGM Studios, making Prime the exclusive U.S. streaming home for the first five seasons—and all future ones too. It’s a big change since the earlier seasons were on Netflix, Hulu, and Peacock, but those deals are done now.
What’s Going Down in Season 5?
Season 5 picks up right after Season 4’s jaw-dropping Lazarus resurrection. The Sanhedrin and High Priest are furious, ready to hand Jesus over to the Romans to shut him down for good. We’ll see the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, Jesus cleansing the Temple, the Last Supper, and Judas’ betrayal—basically, all of Holy Week leading up to the crucifixion in Season 6. The synopsis teases, “The table is set… Instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival.” It’s such a pivotal moment, and I’m curious to see how the disciples react when Jesus doesn’t do what they expect.
What I love most about The Chosen is how real it makes everyone feel. The trailer shows Mary Magdalene (Elizabeth Tabish) struggling with what’s coming, and the disciples are so confused—Peter especially looks like he’s about to lose it. Judas’ betrayal hits even harder because Luke Dimyan plays him with so much conflict. It’s not just a history lesson; it’s a story about people I feel like I know.
A New Chapter for The Chosen
The Chosen started as this little crowd-funded project in 2019, and now it’s a global hit with millions of fans. This Prime Video deal is huge, but it’s not the only thing they’re working on. They’ve got spinoffs coming, like The Chosen in the Wild With Bear Grylls, a six-episode unscripted series where the cast does wilderness challenges, and The Chosen Adventures, an animated series later this year. I’m so happy for Dallas Jenkins and the team—they’ve worked so hard to get here.
Fans on X are freaking out about the trailer. One person said, “This looks like the best season yet—I’m already crying over Gethsemane.” Same, honestly! Some folks aren’t thrilled about Prime Video having ads, but others pointed out you can still watch the first four seasons free on BYUtv with no ads. I’m just glad we’re getting Season 5 in any form—it’s worth it.
Why I Can’t Wait
I’ve been hooked on The Chosen since the first season, and Season 5 looks like it’s going to break my heart in the best way. Jonathan Roumie is phenomenal as Jesus, and the production looks bigger than ever—those $60 million theater earnings must’ve helped! Whether you’re religious or not, the show’s take on loyalty, betrayal, and love is so powerful. With Season 6 in 2027 and the final Season 7 in 2028, we’re getting closer to the end, and I’m already preparing myself for the tears.
June 15 can’t come fast enough—Prime Video, here I come! Who else is hyped for Season 5? What got you most excited in the trailer? Let’s talk about it!
